MY REFLECTIONS ON THE ARTICLE,

Impact of online learning on School Education

We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change. And the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn .

Impact of online learning on school education

It is intellectually authored by Naveen K M, managing director, Trio World Academy, Bangalore.

According to author the Online education has gained immense popularity among working professionals and students pursuing higher education. These categories of online learners find immense benefit in the autonomy and flexibility that these courses offer. Traditional schooling is now seeing an increased proliferation of virtual training materials and online courses we should be having today is about leveraging online education to make our education systems more conducive to learning.

Online courses brings a greater amount motivation and self-discipline than a classroom-based course. He rightly stated that Technology also adds on to the visual experience by incorporating animations that can be used interactively for effective learning and communication.

Advantages of face to face classes / Classroom

He fantastically brought out the advantages such as a classroom provides structure, support, and a system of rewards and penalties to groom its students. Traditional classroom education offers the benefit of face-to-face interactions with peers which are typically moderated by a teacher. It provides children, especially those in their early developmental years, with a stable environment for social interactions, helping them develop skills like boundary setting, empathy and cooperation. It also allows plenty of room for spontaneity, unlike a virtual learning setup.

Online education for students

Online learning can help them pursue highly individualized learning programmes, possibly even college level courses. These, combined with hands-on exercises, real world exploration, and thorough assessments, can be highly beneficial to their learning progress. Teachers and parents need to act as anchors and mentors, curating the kind of educational content students are exposed to, during this tricky phase of exploring the right career to pursue. Online learning programmes will also open up opportunities for children from the weaker socio-economic communities who have limited access to learning resources i.e. teachers, text books and infrastructure. It will connect them to a global network of online learners, exposing them to new perspectives.

Online education for teachers / educators

He rightly pointed out that online training programmes are helping teachers/educators advance their skills in curriculum implementation, policy, education systems and leadership, both independently and with the support of their institutions. It lets them collaborate with their peers and learn new instructional skills that are relevant to their career. These programmes can help them develop new skills and capabilities in their students with the help of technology and interdisciplinary approaches. Online modes of education is becoming more and more inevitable,

My findings...

Online education provides a myriad of advantages for people, as well as companies because it allows for, among others, flexibility. A great way to benefit more from online education is to consolidate online education and traditional ways of teaching. One of the important aspects of online learning is its inherent flexibility, however, there is a catch, one has to be extremely self-motivated. The best online students develop various approaches for staying up to date on their coursework. Things like setting aside time every week to study and create a workspace with minimal distractions can help immensely.

Conclusion

Online education’s potential advantages involve increased educational access; it provides a high-quality learning opportunity, improves student outcomes and skills, and expands educational choice options. Therefore, location, time, and quality are no longer considered factors in seeking degree courses or higher education because of online education.
