DOCUMENTATION OF THE DAY- 8 BY THE GROUP - 8

A - 30 DAY ONLINE TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHERS BY RIESI, BENGALURU

Greetings of the day. The Day - 8 (28.07.2021) was a fantastic one to the Group-8 since the elated teachers had been waiting for their turn to document the wonderful sessions. This is the greatest opportunity that ever be blessed. The two sessions of the day attracted the attention of participants. Though it was a virtual meeting, we were able to quench the thirst for knowledge.
The first session was handled by Dr. Hitesh C. Bhakat sir. He reciprocated the heartiest greetings. His peaceful and smiling face is a symbol for his mental strength and inner peace which should be the ornament of a trainer. His topic was The means, activities and dimension of Teacher Professional Development.

develop confidence.
He started a discussion stating, "Why do we attend in-service training programmes ?"
The exuberant enthusiasm was overloaded with the participants. After a brief discussion he concluded that Academic Writing Papers, Articles, Creative Writing Poems, Story, Novels, Drama etc.,, Peer observation , Reporting, Reflecting, Reflective practices, material preparation for classroom practices, involving in Teacher Development Groups are the means of Continuous Professional Development. He ended the session with an exciting longing for his next class.
The second session of Reading was handed over to Dr. C. Ravi Narayan sir. His intellectual presence inspired every participant. He heartily greeted all the participants. After cordial greetings he gave a crystal clear planning on the topic Reading for the 30 Day Training. He cleared several doubts of participants in submitting assignments by asking simple true/ false questions. We got the difference between Blogger and Google site while submitting the assignments.
Ravi sir motivated all the participants by showing pictures on slides and asking a few interesting questions. He made us kids in learning many things. Each one was waiting for one's turn to speak.
Activity -1 PICTURE- BASED READING
By showing such pictures we can make our children observe and read carefully.
Activity -2
Ravi sir showed a text (Story) and asked us to read silently. Then he showed the same text with pictures. He asked us which would be the best practice in classroom reading as he meant that only showing text and making the children read or showing pictures and text. Obviously everyone replied that text with pictures is very appealing. Next he showed the same story in a video and asked which would be nice to practice in both online and Face-to-Face classes. Then ultimate answer by the participants was audio visual.
Activity 3:
Ravi Sir showed 4 pictures and asked us to develop a story of giant turnip. Many of us tried in a creative way. He advised us to use technology to make our teaching learning transaction more effective. He advised us to update ourselves with the technology.
Later he showed the images of a Big Book. He explained the supporting role of Big book in strengthening Reading skill. He gave wonderful principles behind the use of big books.
He assigned us to prepare a Big Book based on any one lesson from our text book. He advised to use technology in preparing Big Books. He suggested to design multi graded activities. He guided to make use of https://flippingbook.com/online-flipbook or other sites to prepare big books.
Subsequently he discussed learning outcomes of the students from Classes 6 to 10. Finally he asked us to conduct Exploratory Action Research by identifying a problem in our virtual / Physical classroom. Then he asked us to frame questions like "Why do my students lagging in reading/writing/speaking (our problem) ? Is it happening only in my English class or is the same with my colleagues? How should I talk to parents? How should I make them get involved? He added to frame certain questions about our problem. He concluded the class by clarifying all our doubts very patiently.
All of us thanked the teacher trainers of two sessions for their extra efforts to make us face the challenges confidently. We are grateful to the faculty for their inspirational and kind support. Thus the Day - 8 went cognitively great with us.
